Blazing Trails - Leadership
In the ever changing world of adult education and family literacy, knowing where the trail begins, the accountable landmarks, and how to lead the wagon train through uncharted lands becomes a challenge. Join us as the local directors and state leaders explore what to expect in the near future with OVAE staff, learning to deal with difficult people whatever the source with Mary Jones, and then learning the right thing to do for continuous program improvement with NAEPDC.
This intensive Leadership Challenge two day workshop will give you new tools or sharpen the old ones in your role as a trail blazer for your local program.
Homesteading - English as a Second Language
As newcomers continue to seek a new life or escape from oppressive pasts, they seek education to learn to communicate, find work, and help to assimilate into their new home. The in-depth workshop for ESL offers help for teachers to understand the reasons why their learners struggle in class, and how to best facilitate their progress in English. Teachers will also receive concrete information on the new citizenship exam and how to best prepare all levels of students to pass the exam with flying colors.
Carving Out a New Life – Reading & Writing
Storytelling is the beginning of the reading and writing cycle. Help your students learn the art as it is then expanded into writing across the curriculum in creative ways. Capturing experiences and organizing thoughts gets you through both hardships and the GED essay.
Reading was not only a pastime for pioneer families but is a necessary skill for today’s adults. Learn basics that you can immediately use in your own classroom. Experts who have worked with those that have struggled to unlock the secrets of reading will open a whole new world to you.
Gold Rush – Teaching Numeracy
Panning every stream is what you will do in this numeracy to advanced math workshop. Our presenters come from the north and the south as experts in the field. You won’t use slate and chalk but you will get the basics to help your students reach new heights.
Who would have thought that a gold mine could be turned into a deep underground science experiment lab? Who would have thought teaching math could be that easy?
